Groups do not work on the official API

⚠️ Read this before migrating your number. It is the loss most felt by those leaving the WhatsApp Business app, and there is no workaround.

What exactly does not work

The WhatsApp Cloud API does not:

• Receive group messages;
• Send messages to groups;
• List, create, or manage groups.

In practice, once migrated, your number leaves groups and cannot join new ones. Group messages simply do not arrive — not in Orbit, not anywhere.

Why

This is Meta's decision about its own API, not a limitation of Orbit or any other platform. No tool using the official API has groups — anyone promising that is using an unofficial method, which violates Meta's terms and puts your number at risk of a ban.

Alternatives

• Two numbers: keep one number in the WhatsApp Business app for groups and migrate another for automated support. This is the most common route;
• Broadcast lists → bulk sending: if you used groups to notify customers, bulk sending does that job better — each person receives an individual message, without seeing the others;
• Separate community: relationship groups can live on a personal or secondary number.

If your operation depends on groups on the main number, do not migrate that number.
