Message templates

A message template is text previously approved by Meta. It is the only way to reach a customer outside the 24-hour window.

Who creates and approves

Creation and approval happen in Meta's WhatsApp Manager, not in Orbit. We read the list of already-approved templates from your account and display them for use. We do not influence, expedite, or guarantee approval — the criteria are entirely Meta's.

To create one: Settings → Channels → your number's menu → Message templates → Create template. The button takes you to Meta's panel.

Variables

A template can have parts that change per recipient, written as {{1}}, {{2}}. Example: "Hi {{1}}, your order {{2}} has shipped."

When sending through Orbit, you pick the source of each variable:

  • Fixed value — the same text for everyone;
  • Contact name — filled automatically per recipient;
  • Phone;
  • CRM field — any custom field you have created.

The preview shows the result already substituted, before sending.

Cost

Each delivered template is charged by Meta, directly to you. Utility templates sent inside an open window are usually free; outside it, all are charged. See how billing works.

Template statuses

  • APPROVED — ready to use; only these appear when sending;
  • PENDING — under review by Meta (usually minutes to hours);
  • REJECTED — refused; the reason appears in Meta's panel.
